Merrimack, N.H. and Miami International Boat Show, Miami, Fla. Ò February 15, 2007 Ò Raymarine, Inc., a world leader in marine electronics, today announced the release of the Ray218 VHF Radio, a rugged and versatile marine radio that provides professional grade VHF performance in even the harshest weather conditions. With its low profile bezel design, the Ray218 perfectly complements RaymarineÌs E-Series multifunction displays and gives boaters a consistent look and feel across their onboard electronics.

The fully-submersible Ray218 is well-equipped with features such as intuitive rotary controls for channel, volume, squelch and menu operation, an extra large dot matrix LCD, and programmable scanning, including four types of scan (all, saved, priority all and priority saved) that allow users to quickly locate their desired frequency. The radioÌs Dual Channel Display (2UP Mode) allows users to view active and standby channels simultaneously, and the programmable favorite soft keys enable quick switching between preferred channels.

In addition to boasting crystal-clear audio, The Ray218Ìs Class D Digital Selective Calling (DSC) transceiver transmits vital emergency information including a boatÌs ID, position and the time of distress using data from its GPS. In crucial situations, the radioÌs easy-to-access distress key immediately transmits the userÌs GPS position and a digital mayday with the touch of a button.

ÏFrom our sturdy fixed mount models to our compact handheld designs, Raymarine has set the bar for quality and reliable VHF radios within the marine industry,Ó said Terry Carlson, president of Raymarine. ÏWith the new Ray218, weÌre equipping our customers with the most advanced technology for communicating at sea, and hope to make users feel more secure in the knowledge that all the communications capabilities they need are at their fingertips.Ó

For added convenience, the Ray218 includes a speaker microphone with channel scanning buttons and a quick access 16/9 key embedded right into the handset. Additionally, the VHF radio includes a powerful built-in hailer that enables sailors to be heard loud and clear with its 30 watts of transmit power, and also features a Ïlisten backÓ capability and automatic fog horn.

Raymarine also offers an optional Raymic Remote Station Handset that can be mounted remotely. The handset can serve as a full function second station and offers duplex intercom capabilities between itself and the Ray218. The Ray218 also features NMEA 0183 inputs and outputs for integration with other electronics, such as chartplotters for position polling.
